WELCOME TO PAK-LINDAU NOBEL LAUREATE MEETINGS PROGRAM

Interaction of Pakistani Students and Young Scholars with Nobel Prize Winners in Lindau, Germany

This program offers a unique opportunity for talented Pakistani graduates and young researchers to enhance their knowledge, establish new contacts and discuss relevant topics through interaction with 40 to 50 Nobel Laureates and more than 600 scientists from all over the world. Visit to some advanced research centres in Europe is also a part of this program.

To motivate and inspire young graduates to adopt research careers in science and high-tech research.
To create knowledge by interaction of top-level scientists and talented students/young researchers.
Intercultural harmony among the youth of different nations.

The program is supported by Higher Education Commission (HEC), Pakistan Institute of Engineering and Applied Sciences (PIEAS), and the Council of Nobel Laureate Meetings in Lindau, Germany. Pakistani nationals studying or working in Pakistan, and fulfilling the eligibility criteria can apply. The program provides return air ticket and boarding & lodging for one to two weeks in Germany.

Every year thirty to forty Nobel Laureates interact for one week with more than five-hundred students and young researchers from about sixty countries in fields of Physics, Chemistry or Medicine/Physiology (Subject rotation on yearly basis).
Pakistan stepped into this Joint venture of HEC and PIEAS in the year 2003 upon the initiative of Prof. Dr. N. M. Butt, Chairman, PINSAT. Every year around ten talented young Pakistani graduates are selected on merit form all over the country and are taken to Germany for one-to-two weeks to attend the annual meeting of Nobel Laureates.
Pakistan also hosted two Conferences of Nobel Laureates during 2006 & 2007. During this duration, every year, three Laureates inspired and interacted with hundreds of students/ young scholars in Islamabad and Lahore. The first such Meeting of Nobel Laureates in Pakistan was organized in Islamabad and Lahore from March 27-31, 2006. Three Laureates, Prof. C. H. Townes (Lasers), Prof. I. Giaever (Biophysics) and Prof. G. ‘t Hooft (Elementary Particle Physics) came to Pakistan for that Meeting. More than one thousand students/young scholars in the areas of Physics, Chemistry and Biology benefited from the lectures, group discussions and question/answer sessions.
